Fuseboards and Consumer Units

Fuse Board Upgrades Glasgow - Paisley - Westend

Due to new legislation regarding home reports in Glasgow - scotland, if your consumer unit/main fuse board is of an older style (fuse wire replacement system) you may be marked down as a 3 for electrical on your home report. which if you are selling your house could mean the difference of getting that extra 5% on the sale of your home.

We can install consumer units and upgrade older fuse boards for you in an afternoon or in a morning if you prefer. once fully installed with your new circuit breakers and Rcd where applicable, we would issue you with a certificate for the work which is valid for five years from the date of installation. We can provide a free estimate to replace your existing fuseboard with a modern Consumer Unit. These Consumer Units contain a Main Isolator, together with Circuit Breakers (CBs) & Residual Current Devices (RCDs), which together provide a far greater level of protection than re-wirable fuses.

We also check (and if nesesary upgrade) your earthing and bonding arangements.

Circuit Breakers

Circuit Breakers (CBs) are mechanical switches that incorporate thermal & magnetic circuit protection giving accurate & fast disconnection in the case of a fault.

Unlike fuse wires they can be reset without the need of tools.

Residual Current Devices

Residual Current Devices (RCDs) are earth fault safety trips that monitor parts of the installation or individual circuit for earth leakage currents.

Fuseboard upgrades may be required for various reasons:

  • Protective devices may be obsolete or faulty
  • Home report ha been marked as serious or a 3
  • Fuse Board may be overloaded
  • Additional circuits may be required for a house extension
  • The installation of RCDs for additional protection
  • the board itself could be a fire hazard
  • May not meet current electrical regulations
